Hills Galore Stock Farm is family owned and operated  by Alvin and Mary-Kate Pawlitza along with their children Julia, Alex and Georgia.  In 2010 will mark the farms  100th anniversary and 50 years in the Hereford Business.

Situated in SW Saskatchewan just east of the “Great Sand Hills” the annual moisture is 12 – 15” (this includes snow).  We are a “Working Cow Ranch” and depend solely on cattle to generate our income, sadly, no oil or gas wells or wind towers here!

In this area it takes 20 acres to maintain and feed a cow/calf pair.  Each spring we breed 250 registered Herefords and 40 registered Black Angus. A small herd of  commercial Black Angus females are bred to Hereford bulls producing Baldie steers and replacement heifers creating the “Perfect Blend”.

Because of the strong demand for commercial straight bred Hereford females, our plans of expanding has been a slow task the past couple of years.

Our breeding season is 60 days and start to calve late March with 75% of our cows calved out in the first 30 days.  These cows and calves will start grazing the 15th of April and if the weather co-operates, the cows will stay out on pasture until after Christmas.

For a cow to stay in production they must remain sound, have a good udder and produce a calf and breed back every year.  Our cows work for us we don’t work for them.   Common sense, economics and shortage of labor, the kill plants trim feet, we do not deal with bad udders and we do not tolerate temperament  problems.

Marketing is done by private treaty sales selling both yearling and 2 year old Hereford and  Angus bulls.  We market our steer calves privately in one package to a local rancher and sell packages of commercial bred and open heifers.

With the exception of the odd show animal, “Mother Nature” creep feeds all of our calves .  We rely heavily on marketing our bulls to commercial operations who demand bulls  that are sound and not overfed.
